When designing an imaging suite, it is important to consider the patients emotional needs and comforts. An MRI scan can be a nerve-wracking experience for patients, with 42% experiencing anxiety over their MR scan. Patient anxiety results in higher sedation rates, increased patient movement, and more failed MR scans. Research has shown that when a patient's emotional needs and comforts are met, there is a more positive outcome for patients, staff, and the facility as a whole. The lighting design plays a significant role in creating an Enhanced Patient Experience and can aid as a positive visual distraction that soothes the patient's anxiety and encourages relaxation.
